FiveM Cars
Debadged, Optimized & Server-Ready

Everything you need to know before adding custom cars to your FiveM server - what separates a lag-free vehicle from a 60 MB FPS-killer, addon vs replace, debadged vs lore-friendly - plus 500+ vehicles ready to drag-and-drop tonight.

What Separates a Good FiveM Car From a Bad One

A FiveM car is a streamed resource: a YFT 3D model, a YTD texture dictionary, and a set of meta files (vehicles, handling, carcols, carvariations) tied together by an fxmanifest.lua. Quality is measurable, and three numbers decide whether a car runs clean on a 64-player server or melts everyone’s frame rate:

YTD size: under 16 MB, always

FiveM enforces a hard 16 MB per-YTD streaming limit. Unoptimized mods routinely ship 30–60 MB texture dictionaries built from 4K sheets - yet FiveM caps vehicle textures at 1024px on the client, so everything above that is wasted VRAM that causes texture loss for the whole server.

Polygon budget & LODs

Showroom mods reach 300–500k polygons with a single LOD level. Without distance LODs, every player renders the full mesh from across the street. A well-built car keeps visual polys sane and ships _hi.yft detail passes so the engine can scale.

Valid metas & unique modkit ID

In an audit of 832 catalog vehicles we found 568 with meta defects - duplicate modkit IDs, broken carcols references, name mismatches. These cause broken tuning, vanishing body parts and cars that refuse to spawn. Every FiveMRides car passes a validation pipeline that checks exactly this.

The number that matters

An optimized vehicle averages 8–12 MB instead of 25–40 MB. Same look in game - FiveM caps textures at 1024px anyway - but you fit 3–4× more cars in your players’ texture streaming budget before anyone sees texture loss.

Addon vs Replace: Always Choose Addon

Addon cars (what you want)

An addon car is its own resource with its own spawn name. It coexists with every vanilla vehicle, installs by dropping a folder into resources/ and adding one ensure line, and uninstalls just as cleanly. Every car sold here is addon-format. New to it? The installation guide takes 10 minutes.

Replace mods (single-player leftovers)

Replace files overwrite a vanilla vehicle - fine for single-player, messy on a server: you lose the original car, conflicts stack up, and most GTA5-Mods downloads ship in this format. If you have a replace mod you love, the Converter turns it into a proper FiveM addon in about a minute.

Debadged vs Lore-Friendly: The ToS Question

Rockstar and Take-Two enforce against trademarked content on FiveM servers - real brand logos and names are the risk. There are two safe approaches: debadged cars (the real model with logos and brand names removed - keeps the silhouette, interior and feel) and lore-friendly cars (fictional GTA-style brands). Debadged keeps the realism players want, which is why it is our default for all 500+ vehicles. Full comparison in the debadged vs lore-friendly guide.

FiveM Cars - Frequently Asked Questions

What are FiveM cars?

FiveM cars are custom vehicle resources for FiveM (the GTA V multiplayer modification): a 3D model (YFT), textures (YTD) and meta files packaged as a server resource. Players on the server see and drive them like any built-in vehicle - no client-side install needed.

How do I add cars to my FiveM server?

Drop the car’s folder into your server’s resources/ directory, add ensure carname to server.cfg, and restart. Addon-format cars from FiveMRides install exactly this way; the step-by-step installation guide covers ESX, QBCore and vMenu specifics.

Do FiveM cars work with ESX, QBCore and vMenu?

Yes - a properly packaged addon car is framework-agnostic. ESX, QBCore, QBox, vMenu and standalone servers all stream the same resource format. Framework integration only matters for selling the car in an in-game dealership, which uses the spawn name.

Are real-brand cars allowed on FiveM servers?

Trademarked content (real logos and brand names) is what Rockstar/Take-Two enforcement targets. Debadged cars - real models with all branding removed - are the standard way serious servers keep realistic vehicles while staying compliant.

Why do custom cars cause lag or FPS drops?

Three causes, in order: oversized textures (YTDs over the 16 MB streaming limit eat the whole server’s VRAM budget), excessive polygon counts (300k+ with no LODs), and too many unoptimized cars stacked together. Optimized vehicles average 8–12 MB instead of 25–40 MB, which is why a server can run 200+ of them without texture loss.

What is the difference between addon and replace cars?

An addon car is its own vehicle with its own spawn name - the right format for servers. A replace mod overwrites a vanilla GTA V vehicle - a single-player format that loses the original car and creates conflicts. Replace mods can be converted to addon format with the Converter.

Can players see custom cars without downloading anything?

Yes. FiveM streams server resources to clients automatically on join - models, textures and metas included. That is also why optimization matters: every megabyte you ship is downloaded and held in VRAM by every player.

My new car will not spawn - what do I check first?

Check the server console for fxmanifest errors, verify the spawn name matches the modelName in vehicles.meta, and confirm the stream folder is lowercase if you are on Linux. Over 90% of no-spawn cases are packaging problems - the car-not-spawning guide walks through all nine causes.
