FiveM Rusty Car: Barn Find Wear in 5 Levels

FiveM Rusty Car: Barn Find Wear in 5 Levels

A rusty or barn find car in FiveM needs wear that stays on the car when it is repainted or washed. The FiveMRides Vehicle Studio Barn find wear draws rust, dirt, faded paint, chips, peeling and streaks as a livery layer over the paint, in five levels from Used to Wreck, so a respray changes the colour and the rust stays.

By FiveMRides. Updated . Seen in game on FiveM test cars only (a few cars per add-on). Other cars, other servers and GTA V Enhanced have not been tested.

Quick answer
  • Tool: Barn find wear in the FiveMRides Vehicle Studio. Price per car: free.
  • 5 levels: Used, Worn, Rusty, Barn find and Wreck, plus a Clean variant, as normal GTA liveries on the same car.
  • 6 styles: rust, dirt, faded paint, chips, peeling clear coat and streaks, each adjustable.
  • Survives: respray and car wash. It is per model, not per car, because it is a livery.

How does wear survive a respray?

GTA paint is a colour set at runtime, so anything drawn into the base textures is tinted or lost when the colour changes. The livery layer sits on top of the paint and is blended over whatever colour the player picks. The Vehicle Studio writes the wear into that layer, texel by texel, using the car’s own geometry: height above the bottom of the body (sills and door bottoms rust first), creased and open edges (paint chips), arch lips around each wheel, and upward-facing panels (sun fade, dust).

The five levels and six styles

Each level is a preset of six sliders from 0 to 1. On a Wreck some paint still shows, because the peel and chip bloom are limited on purpose.

2 Worn0.250.450.350.450.100.20

4 Barn find0.800.850.850.750.400.65
5 Wreck1.001.001.001.001.001.00

A level sets six sliders (rust, dirt, faded, chips, peel, streaks); you can move any slider after that, and a seed shuffles the pattern for the whole car. You can also mark one panel as primer, a door or bonnet from another car, in a fixed colour that a paint shop cannot repaint, or following the secondary colour.

Rusty, dirty and old cars for FiveM

Searches for a rusty, dirty or old FiveM car usually mean one of two things: a ready-made old car or a way to age a car you already have. This add-on does the second. For ready-made classic and lore friendly vehicles, see the FiveM lore friendly car pack and our debadged cars, then age them here. A plain dirty car in game is the native dirt level; this tool adds wear that does not wash off.

How do I make a rusty FiveM car?

  1. Open the Vehicle Studio. Upload your car and open Barn find wear in the left rail.
  2. Pick the levels. Choose up to five variants, for example Worn, Rusty and Barn find, and add a Clean one if you want a switch back.
  3. Tune the styles. Move the sliders, shuffle the seed, and mark primer panels if you want a mismatched door.
  4. Check the preview. Look at the car from the front, back, sides and top, then build.
  5. Install and switch. Add the resource to your server. Each level is a livery: use the livery menu, a garage script or the native.

What we saw in game

We saw the wear in game on a 1965 pickup and on a 1969 muscle car and confirmed it: heavy rust on both, the rust stays over the paint after a respray (a blue and a red respray both kept it), the chrome parts stay clean, and the levels switch by name. In our test a command set the livery and Barn find, Wreck and Clean all came up as expected. The wear reads matte at night. Other cars and GTA V Enhanced have not been tested.

Limits

  • It uses the livery layer: a car that already has its own liveries loses them in this build, and it cannot share a build with a Livery Studio livery.
  • Per model: every car of that model on the server shows the same liveries (each car picks which).
  • Scratches are colour only, there is no normal map. Dents come from an optional script that dents the body once.
  • Many custom cars ship a black dirt map, so the native dirt shows nothing; an optional even dirt mask fixes that.
  • Cracked or yellowed lights are not part of this tool; the lamp tint add-on handles a yellowed lens.

Rusty car questions

How do I make a rusty car in FiveM?

Open Barn find wear in the FiveMRides Vehicle Studio, pick a level from Used to Wreck, adjust the rust, dirt, fade, chip, peel and streak sliders, and build. The wear is a livery layer over your paint.

Does the rust disappear when the car is repainted or washed?

No. It sits above the paint colour, so a respray changes the colour and the rust stays, and a car wash does not remove it. Only GTA dirt washes off.

How do I make a dirty or old car in FiveM?

For a dirty car, GTA has a native dirt level that washes off. For an old car that stays old, use Barn find wear: pick a level from Used to Wreck and the wear stays after a respray or a wash.

How much does Barn find wear cost?

Price per car: free, for up to five levels plus the Clean variant.

Can the same car be clean and rusty?

Yes. Each level is a livery, and a Clean variant is transparent, so a player or a script can switch between them.

Is it different on every car of the model?

No. The livery is per model. Each car chooses which level to show, but two cars on the same level look the same.

Does it work with the Livery Studio?

Not in the same build yet, because both use the livery layer. The tool refuses the combination with a clear message.

Can I get dents?

Optionally. A small script dents the body once per vehicle, and a repair at a mechanic removes the dents.
