FiveM Livery Template
How to Get One for Any Car

A FiveM livery template is the flat image of a car's body that you paint a livery on: the car's second UV layout, exported as a PNG or a layered PSD, usually 2048 x 2048 pixels. It comes from the car's author, from the community, from Blender (you export the UV layout yourself), or from the FiveMRides Livery Studio, which builds one in your browser for the car you upload. Most add-on cars ship without one, because their body has no clean livery UV map to paint on.

What a Livery Template Is (and Why Most Cars Have None)

A GTA car shows a livery through a second texture laid over its paint. That texture maps onto the body through the second UV map of the painted panels, so the layout of that UV map decides where every pixel of your design lands. A livery template is a picture of that layout: the outline of each panel on a flat square, so you know where to paint the doors, the hood and the roof.

Car makers unwrap the body for their own textures. On many add-on cars the second UV channel is missing, or holds a small repeating layout made for something else, and the lower detail models (LODs) are simplified on their own. Without one clean layout across the whole car, there is nothing to make a template from, and no livery slot for a livery menu to switch. That is why searching for a template for an add-on car often finds nothing.

  • The template: the UV layout as an image you paint on.
  • The livery: your finished design, added to the car .ytd as <txd>_sign_1, _sign_2...
  • The slots: a liveries block in carvariations.meta and FLAG_HAS_LIVERY in vehicles.meta, so the game lists the liveries.

3 Ways to Get a FiveM Livery Template

1. From the car's author or the community

Look in the download first (a template folder, a PSD or a readme), then on the author's Discord or store page. Community sites share templates for popular models. It is the fastest route when it exists, but a template only fits the exact model it came from, and many add-on cars never had one.

2. Make it in Blender with Sollumz

Free, and the full control route: give the body panels a clean second UV map on every LOD, export the UV layout as a PNG and paint on it. It also means setting the livery shader and the slots yourself. Steps below, and the complete walkthrough in how to add a livery to any FiveM car.

3. Build it in your browser with Livery Studio

Upload the car, click the panels that should carry the livery, and the Livery Studio builds a six-view template (left, right, top, bottom, front, back) and the livery UVs on every LOD. Download the template as a PNG to paint in Photoshop or GIMP and add it back as a layer, or paint it in the browser editor, import your logos as layers, and export a resource with working livery slots. Upload, 3D preview and the template download are free; an export costs 1 credit. The tool is in beta.

How to Make a Livery Template in Blender

This is the manual route in short. Back up the resource first, and expect to repeat steps 2 and 3 on every LOD of both model files.

  1. Import <model>.yft and <model>_hi.yft into Blender with the Sollumz add-on.
  2. Unwrap: select the painted body panels (the parts on the vehicle paint shaders) and create a second UV map with a clean layout where nothing overlaps, the same on every LOD so the livery does not change or vanish at a distance.
  3. Export the template: in the UV Editor, use UV, Export UV Layout, and save a 2048 x 2048 PNG. That image is your livery template.
  4. Shader: switch those materials to vehicle_paint3 and point the second diffuse texture at <txd>_sign_1, then export both .yft files with Sollumz.
  5. Paint on the template in Photoshop or GIMP, export it, and add it to <model>.ytd as <txd>_sign_1 with CodeWalker.
  6. Slots: add the liveries block to every colour in carvariations.meta and FLAG_HAS_LIVERY to vehicles.meta, then test on a server.

Shortcut

The FiveM livery maker in the Livery Studio does steps 1 to 6 for you on the server: you only choose the panels and paint, and the template is yours to download as a PNG.

FiveM Police Car Templates

Police and EMS cars sold with livery slots usually ship with their author's template, often a layered PSD with the department stripes on their own layers, so check the download before you start from scratch. For an add-on car that has no slot, the Livery Studio makes it livery-ready and has a police Battenberg preset, a side stripe and race number presets to build a department design on.

A police unit is more than a livery: the lightbar, siren and unit numbers live in other files. The FiveM police car maker page shows the whole route, from emergency lights to a numbered fleet. Looking for finished units instead? Browse FiveM police cars.

Template Size and Format

QuestionAnswer
Size2048 x 2048 for most cars. 4096 x 4096 in DXT5 or BC7 with mipmaps is about 21 MiB, over FiveM's 16 MiB limit per texture.
Working fileA layered PSD (Photoshop) or XCF (GIMP), with the UV layout on its own layer that you hide before exporting.
ExportA PNG with transparency: transparent areas show the car's own paint.
In the gameA DDS texture named <txd>_sign_1 inside the car .ytd, where <txd> is the txdName from vehicles.meta.
More liveries_sign_2, _sign_3... and one more entry in the liveries block for each.

FiveM Livery Template Questions

Can I download FiveM livery templates for free?

Often, yes. Many car authors include a template (a PNG or a layered PSD) with the car or share it on their Discord, and community sites share templates for popular models. A template only fits the exact model it was made from, because it follows that car's UV layout. For a car with no template you can make one for free in Blender with the Sollumz add-on, or let the FiveMRides Livery Studio build one in your browser and download it as a PNG: the upload, the 3D preview and the template download are free, and an export costs 1 credit.

What size should a FiveM livery template be?

2048 x 2048 pixels for most cars: sharp enough on the body and light for servers. FiveM cannot stream a single texture over 16 MiB, and a 4096 x 4096 livery in DXT5 or BC7 with mipmaps is about 21 MiB, so 4096 templates have to be reduced before they go in the game.

Should a FiveM livery template be a PSD or a PNG?

Work in a layered file (PSD in Photoshop, XCF in GIMP) with the UV layout on its own layer, then hide that layer and export a PNG with transparency. The game does not read PSD or PNG: the finished livery goes into the car .ytd as a DDS texture named <txd>_sign_1, which CodeWalker or OpenIV can import.

How do I make a livery template for FiveM?

Import the car .yft and _hi.yft into Blender with the Sollumz add-on, select the painted body panels and give them a clean second UV map with nothing overlapping, the same on every LOD. Then export that UV map as an image (UV Editor, UV, Export UV Layout) at 2048 px and paint on it. The panels also need the vehicle_paint3 shader and the car needs livery slots in carvariations.meta and FLAG_HAS_LIVERY in vehicles.meta, or the livery will not show.

Can I use a livery template made for another car?

Only if both cars share the same model and UV layout, such as two versions of the same release. On a different car the paint lands in the wrong place, because every author unwraps the body differently.

Where do I find FiveM police car templates?

Police and EMS cars sold with livery slots usually come with their author's template, so check the download first. For an add-on car without one, the Livery Studio makes the car livery-ready and has a police Battenberg preset to start from. Lights and unit numbers are separate jobs, done in the Vehicle Studio.

Why is my FiveM livery not showing?

Usually one of four things is missing: the <txd>_sign_1 texture in the .ytd, the livery shader on the panels, a clean second UV map on every LOD, or the livery slots (a liveries block in carvariations.meta and FLAG_HAS_LIVERY in vehicles.meta). Our livery not showing guide walks through each fix.

No Template? Make the Car Livery-Ready

Upload the car, click the panels, paint the six-view template in 3D or let the AI design it, and export a FiveM resource with working livery slots. Free 3D preview, 1 credit per export.
