How to Make a Custom FiveM Ped From a Picture

To make a custom FiveM ped from a picture, upload one to four pictures of a character, or type a description, into the FiveMRides AI Ped Creator. An AI model builds a 3D character, the tool fits it to the GTA freemode skeleton, and you download an add-on ped resource to install and test on your server.

By FiveMRides. Updated . Peds from the AI Ped Creator were tested in game on FiveM with GTA V Legacy. GTA V Enhanced has not been tested.

Quick answer
  • Input: 1 to 4 pictures (front, back, left, right) or a text description.
  • Body: male or female, normal, heavy or very heavy, and a height setting (up to 6 percent shorter or taller).
  • Textures: 4K, or 8K with its own texture of up to 4096 for the head, body, arms, legs and feet (each under 16 MiB).
  • Time: about 4 minutes for a new build, about 1 minute for a free re-edit.
  • Output: a ZIP with fxmanifest.lua, peds.meta and a stream folder with 4 levels of detail, plus a 3D preview with test motions.
  • Limits: no facial animation, loose clothing can clip, the AI guesses what the picture does not show.

Can AI turn a photo into a FiveM ped?

Yes, in two steps: an AI model builds a 3D character from the photo, then the model is fitted and weighted on the GTA freemode skeleton so it can move in game. The result is an add-on ped resource, and it will differ from the photo wherever the photo does not show the character.

What a FiveM add-on ped is

An add-on ped is a character model that has its own spawn name and sits next to the standard peds, instead of replacing one. The game learns about it through a peds.meta file that the resource registers, and the model, its metadata and its textures are streamed from a stream folder. Players download them when they join. A freemode ped is one of the two multiplayer character models (male and female) that FiveM character creators and clothing packs customise; an add-on ped is a separate model that does not use those face and clothing options. The install guide shows the folder layout and the spawn command.

What the AI Ped Creator does

An AI model turns your pictures into one textured 3D mesh. The tool then scales it to the freemode body, lines the arms up with the model’s pose, copies skin weights from the nearest part of the body so the mesh bends with the skeleton, replaces the AI hands of a human character with its own hands built on the GTA finger bones (coloured like the skin or gloves in your picture), makes the level-of-detail models and the textures, and writes the resource. Game data stays on our side: the browser preview only receives your character with our own test motions.

How do I make a custom ped for FiveM from a picture?

  1. Pick a good picture. Use a full-body picture of one character on a plain background, standing with the arms a little away from the body.
  2. Add extra views if you have them. Add the back, left and right views so the AI guesses less. You can also use a text description instead of a picture.
  3. Set the body. Choose male or female, the build, the height and the texture size, and type a spawn name that starts with a letter and uses only lower case letters, numbers and underscores.
  4. Start the build. The tool builds the 3D character with AI, fits it to the GTA freemode skeleton, makes the textures and packages the resource.
  5. Check the 3D preview. Play the test motions and look for clipping and odd hands. Re-edit the ped for free if you want a different height or build.
  6. Download and install. Download the ZIP (fxmanifest.lua, peds.meta and a stream folder), install it on a staging server and test the ped before your players see it.

1. The picture

Start with the best picture you have. A full-body, front-facing character on a plain background beats a dramatic angle. The picture tips guide goes through pose, light and clothing.

2. Extra views or text

Each extra view means the AI guesses less. If you have no picture, describe the character in words. The tool first creates reference pictures from the description, and the ped follows those, so read them before you go on.

3. Body, build and size

Pick male or female. The build (normal, heavy, very heavy) and the height change how the character is fitted to the skeleton. The spawn name is what you type in your scripts, so keep it short, lower case and unique on your server.

4. 4K or 8K

4K is the safe default. 8K shows more detail in close-ups, and gives the head, body, arms, legs and feet their own texture of up to 4096 pixels, to stay under the 16 MiB per texture limit. It uses more graphics memory on every player’s PC, so use it for a ped that players see up close.

5. The 3D preview

When the build is done, rotate the preview and play the test motions: idle, walk, run, wave, dance and squat. Look at the shoulders and elbows, at loose clothes and at the hands. If something is off, a re-edit of a ped you own is free.

6. When you are charged

A ped costs 25 credits with 4K textures or 40 credits with 8K textures. Studio Unlimited includes 1 free ped per week and Studio Max 2 free peds per month, then credits; Studio Pro and members without a plan pay credits. You are charged only when your ped is finished, a build that fails is not charged and does not use a free ped, and re-editing a ped you own is free.

How do I put myself in GTA 5?

Putting yourself in GTA 5 means either making a picture in a GTA style (an image, not playable) or building a playable character model; the second needs a modded or FiveM setup. This guide covers the second: a playable add-on ped on a FiveM server. Use only your own likeness or that of someone who agreed.

What the AI Ped Creator cannot do

  • No facial animation: the face stays still.
  • GTA V Enhanced has not been tested. Our in-game test (spawn, walk, run, sprint, rifle and pistol aiming in third and first person, and a steering wheel) was on a FiveM Legacy test server.
  • Capes, long coats, big hoods and skirts that hide the legs can clip in some motions.
  • The back and any hidden detail are guesses unless you give the AI a view of them.
  • Hands are the hardest part of an AI character, so for a human character the tool replaces them with its own hands, built on the GTA finger bones. They take the colour of the skin or gloves in your picture, but small hand details such as rings are not copied.
  • It is a FiveM resource. We have not tested it for single player GTA V.
  • Use characters and artwork you have the right to use. A real person’s likeness or another company’s character is your risk on a public server.

Questions about making a FiveM ped from a picture

Can AI turn a photo into a FiveM ped?

Yes, in two steps: an AI model builds a 3D character from the picture, then the model is fitted and weighted on the GTA freemode skeleton so it can move in game. The result is an add-on ped resource. It will differ from the picture in places, because the AI has to guess the parts the picture does not show.

How long does it take?

About 4 to 5 minutes in our tests: the AI step takes most of it, the fitting and packaging less than a minute. A free re-edit takes about a minute. You can leave the page and come back to My peds.

Is it better to use one picture or four?

Four views (front, back, left, right) give the AI less to guess. One front picture works, and the back is then invented by the AI.

Can I make a ped from text only?

Yes. Describe the character, and the tool first creates reference pictures with an AI image model, then builds the ped from them. Check the reference pictures before you continue, because the ped follows them.

What is the difference between 4K and 8K textures?

4K gives a 4096 pixel body texture and a separate head texture. 8K gives more detail: the head, body, arms, legs and feet each get their own texture of up to 4096 pixels, so each one stays under the 16 MiB per texture limit FiveM works with. 8K uses more memory on every player’s PC, so use it only for a ped players will see up close.

Does the ped replace a freemode character?

No. It is an add-on ped with its own spawn name, so it sits next to the standard peds instead of replacing them.

How do I make a custom ped for FiveM from a picture?

Upload one to four pictures or type a description, choose the body and the texture size, start the build, check the 3D preview and download the ZIP. Install the folder on a staging server and test the ped before your players see it.

What is a freemode ped, and how is it different from an add-on ped?

Can I use the ped in single player GTA V or in GTA V Enhanced?

We have not tested either. The tool makes a FiveM resource, and our in-game test was on a FiveM Legacy test server.
