FiveM Add-On Ped Invisible, Crashing or in a T-Pose: Fixes
A FiveM add-on ped is invisible, crashing or in a T-pose because of a small, findable problem: a name that does not match the peds.meta, files missing from the stream folder, an old cached copy, or a texture over 16 MiB. Check them in the order below, and test the ped alone before you blame the framework.
- Invisible: check the names, then the stream folder, then clear the client cache.
- Crash on spawn: check that the model name exists, that no texture is over 16 MiB, and try 4K textures.
- T-pose: no animation is applied: check the animation names in
peds.metaand spawn with a plainSetPlayerModeltest. - Always: test with a new spawn name after each rebuild.
Why is my FiveM add-on ped invisible, crashing or in a T-pose?
Work through these eight checks in order. Each one is a numbered step with the file or folder to look at.
1. Is the resource running?
Look at the server console for the resource name. It must say it started without errors. If the ensure line is below the script that spawns the ped, the ped may not exist yet when the script runs.
2. Do the names match?
The spawn name you use in joaat('...') must be the Name in peds.meta, and the model files in stream must carry the same name. A typo or a capital letter in one place is enough for an invisible ped or a failed model request.
3. Did every file reach the stream folder?
Open the resource on the server and count the files. A ped has a .yft, a .ymt and its .ydd and .ytd files. Copying only some of them is a common reason for an invisible or half-drawn ped. Compare the file list on the server with the ZIP.
4. Clear the client cache
Close FiveM, open the FiveM Application Data folder and delete the server-cache and server-cache-priv folders inside its data folder. Start FiveM and reconnect. If you rebuilt the ped, use a new spawn name as well, so the client has no reason to reuse old files.
5. Texture size
FiveM cannot load a single texture over 16 MiB of data. The AI Ped Creator gives an 8K ped five textures of up to 4096 (head, body, arms, legs, feet) for that reason, but ped files made with other tools may not. If the game crashes when the ped loads, or only on some PCs, rebuild with 4K textures and test again. 8K uses more graphics memory on each player’s PC.
6. The peds.meta
Open peds.meta and the manifest. The manifest must list the file in files and register it with data_file 'PED_METADATA_FILE'. If the names in the meta file point to animation sets that do not exist, the ped can stand in the rest pose.
7. A T-pose
A T-pose means no animation is applied. Spawn the ped with the plain script from the install guide and look. If it walks there but not through your menu or framework, the menu is spawning the ped without the usual animation setup, and the fix is in the menu’s settings or code.
8. Is a framework resetting the ped?
Many frameworks set the player model themselves on spawn or on a character change. If the ped appears for a moment and then turns back into the default character, a script is replacing it. Test on a clean server with only the ped.
What is special about an AI ped, and what it cannot do
- The ped is its own fitted model. It is not the standard freemode character, so freemode clothing and face options do not apply.
- Loose clothing, capes and long coats can clip in some motions. That is a limit of fitting a model to a skeleton, not a server problem. Use the browser preview to check the motions before you install.
- There is no facial animation, so the face does not move.
- GTA V Enhanced has not been tested, and the checks above come from a FiveM Legacy test server and general FiveM knowledge. We cannot test every server setup, framework or ped menu.
Questions about add-on ped problems
Why is my FiveM add-on ped invisible?
The most common causes are a name that does not match between the files and the peds.meta, files that did not reach the stream folder, an old cached copy, or a missing texture. Check the names first, then the folder, then clear the cache.
Why does my FiveM add-on ped crash the game?
Crashes usually come from a model the game could not load: a peds.meta name that does not exist as a model, a texture over the 16 MiB per texture limit, or too much streaming memory. Spawn the ped alone on a test server to find out whether the ped itself is the cause.
Why is my FiveM add-on ped in a T-pose?
A T-pose means the ped has no animation applied. Look at the animation names in peds.meta and at how the ped was spawned, because a ped spawned by a script that never loads animations can stay in the rest pose. Test with a plain SetPlayerModel call first.
How do I clear the FiveM cache?
Close FiveM, open the FiveM Application Data folder, and delete the server-cache and server-cache-priv folders inside the data folder. Start FiveM again and reconnect.
Do 8K textures cause crashes?
They can, on weak PCs, because they use more graphics memory. If a ped crashes only for some players, rebuild it with 4K textures and test again.
Does the ped work in my framework?
The resource is a normal add-on ped. Frameworks that manage player appearance themselves may reset the model on spawn, which looks like the ped vanishing. Test with a plain SetPlayerModel call to separate the ped from the framework.
Why do freemode face and clothing options not apply to a custom ped?
A freemode ped is one of the two multiplayer character models (male and female) that FiveM character creators and clothing packs customise; an add-on ped is a separate model that does not use those face and clothing options. The ped from the AI Ped Creator is its own fitted model (head and body parts made from your character), so it is not a bug when those options do nothing.
Does the fix list work on GTA V Enhanced?
We have not checked GTA Enhanced. The checks come from our FiveM Legacy test server and general FiveM knowledge, so they may not all apply there.
